TG30 to Elevate System Scaffolding Safety and Compliance at ScaffEx24

Writer: Lannon Scaffolding Ltd.Lannon Scaffolding Ltd.

The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) is preparing to launch a groundbreaking advancement in scaffolding safety and compliance at ScaffEx24 with its new TG30 guidance suite for system scaffolding. This eagerly anticipated update is set to transform how scaffolding projects are designed, constructed, and maintained, ensuring the highest safety standards across the industry.

What is TG30?

TG30 is the latest comprehensive guidance suite developed specifically for system scaffolding. In collaboration with major scaffolding system manufacturers and suppliers, NASC has created TG30 to offer consistent, practical, and standardized guidance for the diverse array of system scaffolding options available today. This suite is poised to become the go-to reference for contractors, much like its predecessor, TG20, which remains the industry standard for tube and fitting scaffolding.

Set for release in November 2024, TG30 will provide scaffolding contractors with a reliable framework to demonstrate compliance with industry regulations and best practices. By covering both traditional and system scaffolding, TG30 will enable contractors to deliver projects that meet stringent safety and compliance requirements, regardless of the scaffolding type.

Key Features of TG30

TG30 includes a range of essential resources designed to support scaffolding professionals in every aspect of their work:

  • TG30 eGuide: A digital tool for generating compliance sheets tailored to system scaffolding projects.

  • Operational and Design Guides: These documents offer step-by-step instructions on system scaffolding construction, maintenance, and dismantling, in line with BS EN 12811 standards and the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

  • Pocket-Sized User Guide: An easy-to-carry reference to aid on-site workers, ensuring quick access to critical guidance.

This suite is expected to simplify scaffolding processes, reducing the need for bespoke designs that can add significant time and expense to a project. By introducing a standardized TG30 compliance sheet similar to the TG20 sheets, contractors can easily show clients and regulators that their scaffolding meets all required safety standards.

The Future of System Scaffolding Safety

The initial release of TG30 will cover the Rosette system, with plans to incorporate Wedge and Cup systems by 2025. As the guidance expands, specific manufacturer products will also be included, enabling taller scaffolding structures to be safely constructed in compliance with TG30 standards.

Colin Murphy, a leading figure in NASC’s Technical Committee, has emphasized TG30’s importance for basic system scaffolding projects where customized designs are often costly. According to Murphy, “The TG30 compliance sheet will be a game changer, providing essential reassurance to clients and ensuring safe, consistent construction practices.”

TG30’s Impact on Digital Transformation

As part of NASC’s digital transformation strategy, TG30 reflects the organization’s commitment to enhancing access to essential scaffolding guidance. For scaffolding contractors like TG30 Ltd., this means having cutting-edge resources to support safe and compliant projects across the North East of England. TG30 will help us and other scaffolding professionals streamline operations and maintain regulatory compliance, benefiting our clients through reduced costs and faster project timelines.
